1999

SUMMER 1999

Trip via car to Cape Cod

Nice. We stayed in a borrowed house. Visited colleges on the way. Real nice.

SPRING 1999

Caribbean Cruise

Four day Cruise on Royal Caribbean to Nassau, Bahams, Coco Cay ( Royal Caribbean's private island), Key West ( fun, want to go back. ) The kids ( teen girls ) loved it - best vacation ever. Highly recommend for families with older kids.

1998

RENT

April 2, 1998 at the Schubert Theater, Chicago, IL

Fun. Good tunes, well written and funny considering the subjects. Overhyped. Very in in the High School set. Make sure you get good seats. Ends April 5.

Trader Vics, Palmer House Hilton, Chicago IL

Good strong Mai-Tais, but not big enough to justify $7 each. Good food - I had the mahi mahi breaded in almonds with a lime sauce. Good friendly service - did a birthday thing for my daughter. Excellent bar mix.

STOMP

October 10, 1997 at the Coronado Theatre
314 N Main St., Rockford IL

Three hours of brooms, brushes, cans and assorted shrapnel make a very entertaining evening. Friends needed to talk me into it, but after dinner at a local Japanese teppan-yaki joint, it was a great evening. We got there lateish and had to buy tickets 16th row main floor. I was Mortified.

And the theater - very nice. One of those old faux-city exterior palaces with stars twinkling on the roof and window exteriors with lights in the windows. It reminds me of the Nortown Theater in Chicago where I grew up.

Elmo's Diner, 776 9th St., Durham, NC. Roughly Hillsborough and 9th.

Unusual healthy food along with the burgers and a 50's diner look meets Bauhaus style of interior. College hangout atmosphere with students reading Plato at the tables. Had a Grilled Hummus sandwich which was excellent and a long discussion with the friendly waitress about our daughter's intent to look at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. Absolutely no Sesame Street or tickling involved. Recommended.

COMMENTS

Left the marina at 6:30AM. Drove 25 miles out the fishing area, with dolphons accompanying us in the wake for 15 minutes. Toosed lines overboard, and caught mangrove snapper, grey <something>, several 19 inch <somethings> (one inch below limt ) and during our troll, one <something> which we were in the tail season of. Captain and mate were knowledgeable, helpful, and three of our party of six had fished on the Teresa many times before.

Casa Ybel, Sanibel Island, Florida

Very nice. Very expensive. If you need first class, you need this. Big but classy, small enough to not feel lost in the shuffle. Nice rooms, gas grills outside to grill fresh fish. Better kitchens than we have at home.
