FEDERMAN, MI
Federman Station
| This building is the station from Federman, Michigan.
It now stands in the Monroe County Fairgrounds in the city of Monroe.

Federman is on the route of the original Michigan Southern,
running east from Monroe. Federman seems to be the railroad's name for the
crossing with the Ann Arbor Railroad, not a town. |
| Both the Ann Arbor and LS &MS had passenger trains
with scheduled stops at Federman. There were also several LS&MS trains
each way that were "flag stop" at Federman. There was an agent on duty at
Federman on day shift only until the late 1920s. The depot was located in
the SW quadrant of the crossing. In later years, the depot was moved onto
a farm in the SE quadrant (Haines Road south of Ida West Road) and stood
there until the mid 1980s, when it was moved to its present location.
In the NE quadrant of the crossing was a small shanty containing
a 10-lever Saxby & Farmer interlocking machine. The interlocking shanty
was actively used until around 1974, when Ann Arbor upgraded its signal system
between Diann and Toledo. After the 1920s, NYC train crews would operate
the interlocking to cross the Ann Arbor. |
